San Antonio, Texas played host to the annual Property Loss Research Bureau (PLRB) Claims Conference held April 17th – April 20th of this year. By the numbers, the conference presented about 100 sessions and provided exhibitor opportunities to 300 or so industry service providers and vendors. It was very well attended and offered the opportunity to meet and learn relatively early in 2016.

The buzz: heavy rain, high winds, flooding, hail, tornadoes, lightning and other severe weather events were experienced just prior to, and during, the conference in both San Antonio and other Midwest locations, promoting a lot of chatter on these and other looming conditions. Forecasted flooding in Houston during the conference materialised, followed by Mississippi being struck by the same line of storms Leaving San Antonio, Oklahoma and Arkansas experienced powerful tornadoes and hailstorms.

Attendees did their very best to concentrate on both the educational sessions and the networking opportunities, as well as respond to incoming urgent claims. It was a stimulating convergence of a conference and several perils aligned in time and place. Many attendees stayed in the San Antonio and Texas area to continue on assisting with claims.

While other regional PLRB events are scheduled, the next notable conference is the Large Loss gathering later this year in Chicago, where TT will also have a speaking role. We look forward to seeing friends and colleagues there.
