The millennial generation (born between 1980 – 2000) are now entering the insurance market in vast numbers and are set to shape the world of work for years to come.
By 2025, 75% of the global workforce will be comprised of millennials, according to EY’s “Global Generations: A global study of work-life challenges across generations.”
Attracting the best of these millennial workers is critical to the future of any business, and Lloyd’s Under 30s is the perfect initiative for this.
Lloyd’s Under 30s
Run by a Committee of 13 members consisting of Chairman Dan Steed, and underwriters/brokers from various different non-marine classes of business, the ‘Lloyd’s Under 30s’ has had a presence in Lloyd’s for over 20 years.
It’s an open society which creates a community in the non-marine insurance market, bringing together young brokers and underwriters in the different classes of business through networking, social, educational and charitable events
2017 Study Tour
Perhaps most prominently, Lloyd’s Under 30s are known for their bi-annual study tour. Taking place from 11-18 May 2017, 30 successful applicants will be visiting major insurance and reinsurance companies, brokers, agents, lawyers, loss adjusters and influential service providers in San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas and Los Angeles while representing their individual companies and Lloyd’s London Market as a whole.
The Tour offers an invaluable opportunity to develop an in-depth knowledge of the North American non-marine insurance market as well as allowing the group to forge strong relationships with market peers, both in London and in the USA.
As part of the North American tour, the Lloyd’s Under 30s group will be visiting Thornton Tomasetti’s Office. Lenny Alexander, Thornton Tomasetti’s Vice President, Property Loss Consulting London Office Director, said:
“Thornton Tomasetti’s long-term business strategy includes the need to develop and prepare its young millennials with the tools and the support to succeed. We are also fully engaged in the act of blending our Property Loss Consulting talent with their client peers, hence our support for the Lloyd’s Under 30s group. We fully believe that the future of the insurance industry will be shaped by some of the talent included in this pool.”
