Major misconduct on the part of the Victoria building surveying industry has placed homeowners in danger, exposing them to work that doesn’t meet even the most basic Australian safety standards.
Since 2009, surveyors have been found guilty of a shocking 700+ misconduct claims. Reports also reveal that they have ignored serious fire risks and illegal building work to issue occupancy permits for buildings that were not fit for occupation.
A recent Victoria Auditor-General’s report warned that 10 per cent of Victoria’s registered building surveyors were found guilty of an offence by the Building Practitioners Board in the five years leading up to December 2013.
